Being Fair to Trout is a compilation of the fishing articles of Gilbert Tew, originally published in the Fishing Gazette, Country Sportsman, Angler’s Monthly, The Field and other sporting journals. After studying at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Tew joined the Indian Civil Service so that he could fish for mahseer. He stayed in Burma for twenty-five years, returning to fish for trout in England. This book offers a unique insight into angling during and between two world wars and is enhanced by additional commentary, from his daughter, and respected anthropologist, the late Professor Mary Douglas.
