Author Tim Paisley is equally at home in front of a word processor, or bivvied up behind a set of carp rods. He started carp fishing in the early 70s, took an interest in the practice and theory of carp baits from the mid-70s onwards, and designed the early baits in the Nutrabaits range. He and Greg Fletcher founded the Carp Society in 1981, and in 1988 Tim launched the first newsstand carp magazine, Carpworld, which has recently celebrated its 30th birthday. He has had ten books published, and has contributed to numerous others.

Tim has caught carp to mid-40lb from home waters, and to 78lb+ from overseas waters. He has won three world carp titles fishing with Steve Briggs (twice) and Lee Jackson. Tim runs two ancient-mere carp waters in Shropshire on behalf of the owners, is a book and memorabilia collector, and in his early 80s continues to work from his office at home in Whitwell, near Worksop in Derbyshire.

Comments Tim: ‘The majority of carp anglers are not biochemists, but because they spend thousands of hours by the water trying to outwit carp they are innovative, and may have acquired some insight into carp behaviour that is denied to scientists. This book came about because of anglers’ curiosity about carp’s behaviour, their inventiveness, and the insight gained as a result.’
