CAUGHT IN THE ACT - Parts 3 & 4

By Bob Roberts and Stuart walker narrated by Keith Elliot

"Parts 1 & 2 which covered the seasons of spring and summer turned out to be a great success when we released them earlier this year. The feedback from the first two films has been fantastic with quite a few comments saying it had a “Passion for Angling” feel about it, Hugh Miles is a hero of ours so those comments were greatly received from our customers."

"Filming for Parts 3 & 4 throughout Autumn and Winter over the last 3 years has been our greatest challenge so far.  Over the last couple of seasons we have had some of the harshest winters for 30 years. In a way, the tough winters have given us opportunity’s to make the films extra special because they provide, at times, some stunning backdrops to film against. We actually re-shot one of our winter chub sequences because the countryside was blanketed in snow, making the final sequence much more inspirational than the original one filmed in milder winter conditions."

"These latest films are all about inspiring anglers to get out on the bank throughout the tougher times of the year. Most of our filming has taken place on wild venues, and the majority has been filmed on day ticket or club waters thus making them accessible to everyone. The key to success throughout the filming and fishing was choosing the right quarry and venue for the given conditions, and having a filming plan.

We suffered some tough filming sessions though, a big zander eluded us for well over a year, while losing two massive grayling on the River Eden in Cumbria within 10mins was another low. Some of the highs would be a brace of big pike from a river in -5 Deg. Then locating some big river perch, filming 4lb fish feeding on lobworms underwater took our breath away. We then stalked them in the clear water to produce some truly unique perch sequences. Catching well over 100lbs of chub on the stickfloat in freezing conditions and snow was another red letter day, all captured on film. There are many more but I don’t want to spoil the film too much!

We cover another 10 “Acts” in these films with lots of different methods, venues  and fish species.

At times the filming became an obsession, I recall one day I should have been setting off to London to catch an evening flight to the Sahara desert for my job, but instead I was travelling the wrong way up the A1 to the swale in Yorkshire to film the river in a very high spate! The result though is some very unique footage as 20ft of floodwater merges with the low river shots we took in the exact same place at a later date. I did manage to catch my flight, just!

We also feel Keith Elliott’s narration of the films enhances them greatly, he has the perfect voice for this type of film. These films are primarily inspirational but we have balanced them with some technical content for the viewer who wants to try any of the methods themselves. We are extremely proud of the end result and feel we have really captured the essence of autumn and winter fishing."
