Stories included in Phil Smith's latest book Targets Set and Achieved are those of the capture of large fish of all the different coarse species he has caught since his last book Magic Moments came out in 2004.

About one third of the book is taken to relate the challenge of completing double figure barbel from 10 different rivers within one season. Following two years of failure, Phil completed that target with doubles from 16 different rivers in the 2006/7 season. He then went on to take doubles from a further four different rivers to give a current total of 20. Alongside this, he also improved his personal best barbel for a number of rivers, and these are all included with tackle and tactics described in full.

The book then goes on to relate the capture of several large roach to 3lb 13.5oz, crucians to 4lb 9oz, tench to 11lb 14oz, and many other different monster fish. Yet again, tackle and tactics are described to allow the reader to maybe use similar methods to improve their own catches.

The book is lavishly filled with colour photographs throughout to give a pictorial feast to the reader.
